Christopher Crocker, trainer is based
in Maryland at Laurel Race Park. Top quality grain
and hay is provided to ensure your horse receives
the best performance nutrition. Supplements are provided
as well, to maximize athletic ability. Nothing is
overlooked when it comes to peaking your horse's performance.
Crocker instills confidence in your horses, along
with a competitive spirit, or what we say in the business,
"heart". Crocker believes in not only achieving
physical strength, but giving mental strength to the
athletic horse as well. His racing stable studies
the latest advances in equine sports medicine and
nutrition and customizes a training program for each
individual equine athlete. Cardiovascular health,
respiratory health and muscular skeletal health all
must work together to prevent early injuries and develop
a total thoroughbred. "We believe in developing
the total thoroughbred race horse."
-Christopher Crocker
Careful, individual monitoring of each horse's blood
counts and cardiovascular health are very important
to us. Heart monitors can be used to determine peak
performance as well as blood test to determine performance
levels. This ensures peak performance health of your
horse and readiness to race.
Respiratory health is just as important, to insure
maximum oxygen intake is available to fuel the muscles.
Each horse has a threshold of performance and we will
find it safely. Taking guess work out of the equation
reduces wasted time, cost and most importantly, down
time from injury.
Muscular Skeletal Health is very important in young
thoroughbreds. A horse's bones don't mature until
about 4 years old. This development stage is overlooked
or ignored by many thoroughbred race horse trainers
and cost, owners in the industry, millions of dollars
in lay-up cost and veterinarian care. Many trainers
consider injuries involving bones are just growing
pains and feel time out in the pasture is the cure
all, but many re-injure after returning. These injuries
can be caught in early stages and time off is not
always the best treatment. Most of these injuries
are preventable with the proper understanding and
education in this area. Lengths of workout distances
and frequency of these workouts in 2 year old horse
are found to be a key factor in building bone strength.
Speed of workouts should be controlled at all ages,
but particularly young thoroughbreds, to prevent unnecessary
injuries due to high stresses on joints and bones.
